Waking a Baby Mammoth?

Baby Mammoth
Sunday, April 26th, National Geographic will air a special on Lyuba, the 40,000 year old well-preserved baby mammoth that was discovered in the Russian arctic in 2007.
Scientists believe Lyuba was about 1 month old when she was either smothered by a mudslide or drowned. The clay-like material that covered her body, possibly suffocating her to death, also acted as an agent to sort of “pickle” her, preserving her in a nearly pristine state until discovered 2 years ago.
Unlike other mammoths which have been discovered in the past, always in less pristine condition and often displaying signs of physical distress and even starvation, Lyuba appears to be the picture of health which excites scientists over what can be learned about the life and times of healthy mammoths.
