Ubuntu 9.04 boots in 17.5 seconds

The newest release of the Ubuntu operating system, which is based on the linux kernel, is gaining lots of attention for its ability to boot up in under 20 seconds.

In fact, Matt Cutts of Google tested it on video with his laptop, and went from powered off to up and running with the Firefox browser opened and connected to the web in under 23 seconds. That’s impressive!

Version 9.04 is in open Beta, however the early testing returns suggest it will be very popular once it reaches public release.
