John Madden Retires from Broadcasting

John Madden
Football fans across America are buzzing over the news that John Madden has decided to retire from announcing football games.
Madden has been a staple in American football since being drafted as an offensive lineman in 1958 by the Philadelphia Eagles. His playing career was cut short by a knee injury one year later however, and that’s when he turned to coaching, first at the college level, and then later in the pros with the Oakland Raiders.
Madden retired from coaching in 1978, after 9 years with the Raiders, and was then hired by CBS as a color commentator for NFL broadcasts and has been announcing games ever since.
Not everybody enjoyed his broadcasting style, but most can agree that he has had a huge impact on the game of football in every aspect of his career.
